Starting this Wednesday, the population over 18 years of age in Panama will be able to receive their booster dose against covid-19 of the Pfizer vaccine, announced the Ministry of Health.
The decision, which according to a statement was made by the country's president, Laurentino Cortizo, was based on scientific evidence and results presented to the president that indicate that people 18 years of age or older, who received Pfizer vaccines, can apply a booster dose. .

Until this Tuesday, the booster dose against covid-19 was only applied to people over 55 years of age.
In Panama, only the population was immunized with Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines.
Those who received the latter may be vaccinated with Pfizer as a booster.
A report from the Expanded Program on Immunization of Panama ensures that 89.4% of the population over 12 years of age has their first dose and that 79.2% received the second.
So far, 6,060 third doses have been applied to immunosuppressed patients and to 155,612 as a booster.

Currently, Panama registers a rebound in cases in some parts of the interior of the country and the capital city.
According to the epidemiological report of the Ministry of Health, as of this Wednesday, the country accumulates 476,611 confirmed coronavirus cases and 7,358 deaths.
There are 2,541 active cases, of which 117 are hospitalized and, of them, 21 in intensive care.
