"That should be a matter of course": The Seehauser Johann Geisenberger criticizes the fact that many local councils were missing from the commemorative event on the day of national mourning.

Too many in his eyes.

He is not alone in this opinion.

Seehausen

- He expressed his criticism quite openly, precisely in front of the group of people to whom his ruffle was addressed: Johann Geisenberger spoke at the beginning of the Seehaus municipal council meeting - and practically read the riot act for part of the committee. The honorary commander of the Seehaus fire brigade, who has worked for the veterans 'and soldiers' association for many years, displeases the fact that the majority of the councilors shone with their absence when the memorial service was held on site on memorial day. Two wreaths were laid, a small delegation from the Seehaus brass band played, and the chairman of the veterans' association, Andreas Muras, found suitable words for the occasion, which is supposed to be a symbol of peace and reconciliation, but above all of which people remember the victims of the war. In Geisenberger's eyes, it is “appropriate” for local elected officials to attend this event:"That should be a matter of course" - especially since "the community organizes this, which is different from, for example, the Veteran's Day", argues Geisenberger.

Local councils at memorial event: "The population also looks a little bit at it"

Council member Klaus Neubert (CSU) took part in the commemoration;

In addition to Mayor Markus Hörmann (CSU), deputies Karl Widmann (PWS) and Peter Schweiger (CSU) were reportedly there.

Neubert, who is involved in the association as a cash auditor, laid the wreath for the community.

He agrees with Geisenberger's criticism - Neubert would also have liked to see more councilors at the memorial event.

"I think the population also looks a little bit at it," says Neubert.

Mayor Hörmann backs the critic

Geisenberger also receives backing from the top city hall office: "I understand him 100 percent," says Mayor Hörmann. He signals his "support" in this matter to the long-established Seehauser, believes that the commemoration of the day of national mourning, which, according to Hörmann, the community organizes together with the veterans 'and soldiers' association, "should be noticed more. In principle, it would be desirable if more local councils were there. It is a day of remembrance, on which one can show one's face ”. The (relatively low) interest corresponds "perhaps to the trend of the time" - but the corona pandemic also plays a role and does not make it easier to appear. Hörmann does not see a community or mandatory date for councilors on the day of national mourning, but a certain “moral obligation” to participate. He suspects that a certain amount of tiredness as well as an oversaturation of appointments (“The service was not overcrowded”) predominates - and commemoration of the memorial day is not a priority.

Dr.

Robert Roithmeier was absent this year.

“I think so,” emphasizes the representative of the Bürgerernah / ÖDP / Greens list, “that most of the local councils are trying to come.

For a variety of reasons it doesn't always work. "

Veterans in Mittenwald and Partenkirchen also express complaints

There are also complaints about the lack of attention from political representatives further south - albeit in connection with veteran anniversaries: The Mittenwald association chairman Georg Jungkunz recently complained about a dwindling interest in the commemoration and made it clear that more than a dozen local councils were invited despite the invitation stayed away from the anniversary without rejection.

Chairman Heini Waldhör from the Partenkirchen veterans spoke in the same direction (we reported).

Back to Seehausen: There, Hörmann attaches great importance to the day of national mourning: “As mayor, I see this as one of the highest values.” And Johann Geisenberger at least hopes that he was able to make a difference with his critical words.

“That'll turn out to be next year,” he says.

Perhaps, says Mayor Hörmann, Geisenberger “shook one or the other councilor” with his words.
