Yuan Haiwen: Too few people open
The Democratic Party’s Sham Shui Po District Councillor Yuen Hai-wen said that the opening arrangements announced by the government today are short-term plans. Next, the district council will convene a working group to review the situation and follow up on future developments every week.
He praised the government's revitalization speed "OK", but he criticized the government for insufficient consultation and only discussed it once in a district council meeting, and there was no detailed explanation of the maintenance and public opening at the meeting.
He believes that the number of participants in the short-term opening is too small, and it is recommended that more public visits to provide opinions, and he hopes that the authorities will formulate a long-term activation plan as soon as possible.
Yao Boliang: Application for NGO Operation of Historic Sites Brings Mission Difficulties
Yao Boliang, the convenor of the Hong Kong Travel Agency's Great Alliance for Relief of Distress, said that revitalizing the Bishop's Mountain Service Reservoir will help the tourism industry launch in-depth local cultural tours.
However, he pointed out that the number of revitalized monuments in Hong Kong is small and the level of assistance is only "drop in the bucket".
At the same time, the government has handed over many historical sites to NGOs for operation. In addition to the limited number of visitors and time limit, the group of organizations consider travel agencies to be commercial organizations, making it more difficult to apply for guided tours.
"I hope to cooperate more with the tourism industry, and don't leave it to the industry's own book."
Yao also took the former official residence of the Secretary for Home Affairs in Yuan Chau Tsai and the old Tai Po Police Station as examples. He believed that many citizens had never visited.
He suggested that the government should make good use of the monuments in the future to let more people understand the history behind it.
He also praised the speed of handling the Bishop Mountain Service Reservoir by the authorities this time. "This time is a special case and it is faster than expected. I hope (the government) will have this efficiency in the future."
Yao Boliang is one of the candidates for the tourism functional constituency of this Legislative Council, and the other candidate is Ma Yichao (independent).
