Today, in As-Suwayda Governorate, a 16-day campaign to combat violence against women was launched through a series of activities and events organized by several NGOs.
The head of the Syrian Family Planning Association branch in As-Suwayda, Iqbal Hamed, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the campaign is being held in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund and includes awareness sessions in which a set of axes are addressed, including promoting a culture of dialogue in the family institution, empowering women, their contribution to decision-making within and outside the family, and the roles they play. And how to reduce harmful practices, early marriage, child marriage, the negative effects of child labor and drugs, and the increased risks of gender-based violence in light of the Corona pandemic.
For her part, the media officer of the Baraem Association for Child Welfare, Reham al-Atrash, indicated in a similar statement that the association, in cooperation with the UNHCR, is conducting a series of purposeful awareness activities that include cultural debates, theatrical performances, entertainment events and dialogue sessions directed at different age segments of society, which focus in their content on the importance of equality between Gender, non-discrimination and empowering women in various areas of life.
While the director of the Salim Community Center, Sulaf Salim, indicated that the center, in partnership with the Nour Association for Relief and Development, organizes throughout the campaign a series of awareness sessions and activities that include participation in the international volunteer days synchronized with them, as well as sports and musical events and a medical campaign in one of the governorate’s villages and a bazaar to display the products of women who have been Rehabilitating them through the center, in addition to honoring a number of distinguished women and people with disabilities.
