The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it is following the US destroyer Orly Burke, which is sailing in the Black Sea and carrying guided missiles.
“The forces and means of the Russian Black Sea Fleet are following up on the movements of the destroyer Orly Burke of the US Navy, armed with guided missiles, which entered the waters of the Black Sea today,” Sputnik news agency quoted the defense center in the ministry as saying in a statement.
In a related context, a member of the Russian Federation Council, representing the Crimea, Olga Kovitedi, announced that the approach of the US destroyer to the Black Sea basin increases tension and is a challenge to Russia.
Kovitide called on the Security Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to take steps to prevent the United States and its partners from increasing military activity in the Black Sea.
