Now the wedding bells are still ringing: The Sparkassen Freising and Moosburg are merging.

In the second attempt.

Freising

- It is a pure marriage of convenience: the two financial institutions believe that they will be better able to survive the ongoing phase of low interest rates together.

In 2017/18 the merger was about to take place.

Then, however, the deal surprisingly fell through.

So now a new attempt: for the - comparatively small - savings banks, it has not become easier since then to operate sensibly because of the extremely low interest rates and increasingly demanding regulations.

CEO Johann Kirsch: "We want to dare"

The boards of directors of Sparkasse Freising and Stadt- und Kreissparkasse Moosburg Isar therefore "unanimously agreed last week to develop a concept for a high-performance savings bank in the region," announced on Thursday.

The Freising CEO Johann Kirsch: "We want to take this step now, and we are confident that it will succeed." The aim is to "create a regional savings bank with strong customer orientation and good future prospects".

A better basis for innovations that are due

The business areas of the two savings banks are in the Freising district. “In this strong economic area, it makes sense to take a common path,” said Sparkasse Freising. The merger of the two savings banks would create an institute with a company size of around three billion euros. With this company size, the new Sparkasse ranks in the stable middle field of the Bavarian savings banks, according to the statement of the savings banks. A stable economic basis enables the new Sparkasse to "make necessary investments in future fields, to quickly implement innovations for the benefit of customers and also open up additional opportunities for companies and people in the region, for example with more complex financing or individual asset advice."

What is still missing is the positive vote of all committees and municipal representatives (district and the cities of Freising and Moosburg).

If there is the green light as to what can be assumed, the two savings banks aim to merge in summer 2022.

The merger should be perfect on June 1st.

Sparkasse boss: All employees "find their place"

As the CEO of Freising, Johann Kirsch, emphasized, all employees would "find their place" in the new Sparkasse.

While the merger will not change anything in terms of customer support, there will be operational “mixes” because areas will be merged.

In future, Freising employees will also be working in Moosburg - and vice versa.

Kirsch emphasizes that the merger will not involve the closure of an office.

The main offices also remained unchanged.

With the merger, however, "new professional prospects would be created and jobs in the region secured".

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The "coalition negotiations" that failed in 2017/18 are now being resumed "because the challenges for the banks have increased further".

"When two high-performance partners join forces and their competencies," the two wedding partners hope, there will be advantages for the region, customers and employees - "but also for the long-term preservation of the regional savings bank".
