The Israeli team is currently opening the 2023 World Cup qualifying campaign in a home game against Poland at the Kvutzat Shlomo Hall in Tel Aviv. This is the team's first game in front of an audience since the outbreak of the Corona plague in the spring of 2020.
The blue-and-whites are led for the first time by coach Guy Goodes, who replaced Oded Katash.
Israel's final squad for the game includes: Gal Makal (Andorra), Yiftach Ziv (Maccabi Tel Aviv), Yam Madar (Partizan Belgrade), Roi Hoover (Hapoel Eilat), Adam Ariel (Hapoel Jerusalem), Rafi Manko, Guy Pnini (Hapoel) Holon), Nimrod Levy (Upper Galilee), Tomer Ginat (Metropolitans), Jake Cohen (Maccabi Tel Aviv), Itai Segev (Hapoel Jerusalem) and Idan Zalmanson (Hapoel Tel Aviv).
Israel is dreaming of qualifying for the World Cup for the third time in history and the first time since 1986. In the first home stage, the team was drawn with Estonia, Germany and Poland when the three teams that finish first will advance to the second home stage.
The World Cup will be held in the summer of 2023 jointly hosted by Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia.
