For so-called attack dogs, their owners in Vaterstetten will have to pay significantly more dog tax in the future.
That has now been decided by the local council.
Vaterstetten
- The rate will increase from 50 euros per year to now 900 euros per year.
The annual tax for the other dogs will also increase, albeit lower, from 50 euros to 70 euros per year.
Vice Mayor Maria Wirnitzer (SPD), who chaired the meeting of the body, said the last increase was twelve years ago.
In comparison with other municipalities, Vaterstetten is in the lower third.
Municipality refers to steering tax
“So far we have been one of the few communities without a fighting dog tax,” added treasurer Markus Porombka at the meeting.
It is not about “generating” income, but “about a steering tax”.
So far, the number of fighting dogs in the larger community has not been recorded, according to the town hall.
Critical comments on the significant increase for different dog breeds came from CSU councilor Michelino Capezzuto-Zehetmeier.
He argues that this only achieves the opposite.
Means: Real attack dogs would be listed in the papers as mixed breeds in order to avoid the tax.
He pleaded for a smaller increase, but remained alone in voting with his opinion.
"If someone writes in a German shepherd, we can't understand it," says Porombka.
“I'm a treasurer and not a biologist.” Axel Weingärtner (Greens) said that you shouldn't forego an increase just because you could cheat.
Effort for the community
On the part of the town hall, in order to increase the dog tax in general, the effort of the municipality of Vaterstetten for the removal of dog excrement was pointed out.
Since 2009, the number of dog toilets in the municipality has more than doubled from 32 to 69.
The following figures can also be found in the meeting template: Acquisition costs of more than 200 euros per toilet, running costs, for example for dog waste bags, of around 2700 euros per year.
Employees of the building yard on the move
In addition, the annual staff costs of the construction depot for emptying and maintaining the dog toilets as well as collecting the other dog poops in the municipality are around 38,000 euros per year.
The trend is upwards, according to the town hall.
When asked, the municipal treasurer said at the meeting that the municipality's income from dog tax is currently between 60 and 65,000 euros per year.
The increase would result in additional income of around 26,000 euros per year.
Look at the neighbors
The amount of the new Vaterstetten fighting dog tax is based on the neighboring communities of Grasbrunn and Haar.
In principle, the municipality refers to a model statute from the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior for all further requirements.
