The city of Starnberg will support associations and initiatives from the fields of culture, welfare and sport in the coming year with grants totaling a good 260,000 euros.

That was decided by the responsible city council committees this week - but not all applications were approved in full.

Starnberg

- First the culture committee, then the main and finance committee: In two meetings in a row, the responsible city council bodies dealt with grant applications from the areas of culture, welfare and sport this week.

With a total of 89,000 euros, cultural initiatives will be funded in the coming year - just under the 90,000 euros cap set by Mayor Patrick Janik, which meant that many applications were not approved in full by the committee.

The culture

The largest item, 35,400 euros, goes to the Five Lakes Film Festival (FSFF), which applied for 38,000 euros. 13,000 euros go to the local folk costume association. The club needs the vast majority for the Prinzregent-Luitpold-Fischerstechen, which is planned for the first time after five years for the first time next year.

Other approved grants: 3500 euros for art spaces by the lake, 3000 euros for the Weitwinkel association, 500 euros for the breakfast meeting for women association, 1900 euros for the support group of the Starnberg elementary school, which implements the “Workshop of Fantasy” project, 1500 Euros for the Kunstverein Roseninsel, 300 Euros for Offene Ateliers eV, 500 Euros for the Fotowilden, 1000 Euros for the Theater Society Tragaudion, 2500 Euros for the Kolping stage, 5000 Euros for the town band, 2000 Euros for the Wangen brass band, 5000 Euros for the association Musica Starnberg, 2000 euros for the Munich Rowing and Sailing Club (MRSV) for the organization of two bridge concerts, 300 euros for “Jugend musiziert” and 1600 euros for the audio trails of the VHS.

The subsidies for the Starnberg Music Days have been cut significantly.

Instead of the requested 20,000 euros, the city council granted 10,000 euros - as much as it was in 2018 and 2019.

The development of Professor Rudens Turku's event was "astonishing," said Janik.

"The growth must not only be generated from grants from the city." Winfried Wobbe (UWG) pointed out that although high-ranking artists would take part in the classical music festival, "but you hardly notice that," he said.

The welfare work

In the area of welfare, six associations and initiatives receive financial support from the city - all in the amount of the applications.

The foreign children working group is subsidized with 3,000 euros in the new year, the Verein Brücke Starnberg with 10,000 euros, Donum Vitae with 500 euros, the Protestant Diaconal Association with 4,500 euros, “Women Help Women” with 2,500 euros and the Starnberg welfare organization with 5,000 euros.

In addition, the German Child Protection Association receives 9,900 euros if it can prove deficits.

The sport

A total of eleven grant applications were submitted to the financial politicians of sports clubs - some of them were cut significantly again. The ongoing operating subsidies remained unaffected, but they are only paid out if there are deficits: 16,000 euros for SV Söcking, 12,000 euros for TSV Perchting-Hadorf, 19,000 euros for FT 09 Starnberg, 17,000 euros for MRSV and 10,000 euros for the table tennis department of TSV Starnberg. When it comes to investment grants, however, the financial politicians put the red pencil on.

The tennis department of FT 09 Starnberg receives 3,000 euros for an embankment - the requested 20,000 euros for a sprinkling system and 30,000 euros for converting a sand into an all-weather court have been canceled. Above all, Janik considered the sprinkler system to be “pure luxury”. In his youth he still watered the place with a water hose to avoid dust formation - "and I survived that without major psychological damage".

The Munich Yacht Club (MYC) was also shortened.

Instead of the requested 28,728.47 euros for the purchase of a new J70 sailboat, Marc Fiedler (FDP) requested only half, i.e. 14,364.23 euros.

Independently of this, 10,000 was approved for the wild boar fence of the SV Wangen sports facility, 4,500 euros for the vaulting club to purchase a mulching device, 21,000 euros for the St. Georg riding club, including a used horse trailer, and 20,000 euros for the TSV Perchting-Hadorf, the majority of which is going to the renovation of the two football fields.
