Holzkirchen / Otterfing - After more than ten years of planning, the cycle path between Holzkirchen and Otterfing is about to be completed.

After more than ten years of planning and many setbacks, the Otterfing – Holzkirchen cycle path is looking forward to a happy ending.

If the weather cooperates, the new direct bike connection could be completed in 2021, with the exception of the crossing aid on the Holzkirchen side.

In April Holzkirchen's mayor, Christoph Schmid, and his colleague from Otterfingen, Michael Falkenhahn, gave the go-ahead for the long-awaited project of the approximately 1.5-kilometer-long direct cycle route between the two municipal train stations.

In August, construction work on the paved path west of the tracks began on the Otterfinger side.

Railway embankment over the Teufelsgraben

After the Strabag company has completed this part, work is now being continued from Holzkirchen.

A key point in the construction work was the upgrading of the railway embankment over the Teufelsgraben so that the path remains without major gradients and is not only suitable for everyday use, but also attractive for schoolchildren, commuters and excursion cyclists.

It is encouraging that the construction costs in the millions, some astronomically estimated during the ten-year planning phase, are now actually around 735,000 euros.

Less a grant of 221,000 euros, Otterfing accounts for around 200,000 euros on a pro rata basis.

The market town of Holzkirchen will take care of the rest.

Crossing aid via the MB9

Whether the crossing aid over the MB9 (north spine) will be finished in 2021 depends on other construction projects in the market town.

In any case, the necessary width of the cycle path has already been created.

From the ranks of the Otterfinger municipal councils there was a recent wish to pay special attention to the crossing aid for reasons of traffic safety.

Since this concerns the municipality of Holzkirchen, Falkenhahn wanted to discuss it with Schmid.

Bike path from Otterfing to Sauerlach

On the Otterfinger side, however, there is a need for clarification as to when and how the route from the train station over the Holzhamer Bridge to the start of the new cycle path should be expanded.

Since the new path represents the first section of the direct cycle connection Otterfing – Gmund, Otterfings' building authority director Hubert Zellner would like to first check whether there are subsidies for it.

Especially since the cycle path from Otterfing could also continue to Sauerlach, which would practically close the cycle connection to the state capital.

It is also still unclear whether the path will be illuminated.

The conduits for this have already been dug in.
