Sonthofen - The CSU wants to prevent an apparently planned withdrawal of the fire protection center of the Bundeswehr in Sonthofen.

The CSU local association Sonthofen and the city council faction of the CSU sent a joint letter to the acting Federal Minister Dr.

Gerd Müller and Mechthilde Wittmann, member of the Bundestag, turned to prevent an apparently planned withdrawal of the Bundeswehr fire protection center in Sonthofen.

In the personal letter, local chairman Florian Schwarz and parliamentary group chairman Josef Zengerle ask the two federal politicians to work for the long-term preservation of the fire protection center in Sonthofen and to hold talks with the Ministry of Defense immediately.

The fire protection center is to move

The Federal Office for Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services of the Bundeswehr in Bonn is apparently planning to dissolve the fire protection center in Sonthofen by 2024 and to distribute it to other locations in Germany.

"The relocation of the fire protection center would weaken the Bundeswehr location in Sonthofen," says local chairman Schwarz.

Since the complex and expensive renovation of the Generaloberst-Beck barracks, the two local politicians have assumed that the Sonthofen military base will tend to be strengthened and expanded in the future.

120 employees affected

Up to 120 employees will be affected by the relocation of the fire protection center.

Including fire brigade officers, soldiers and civilian employees.

"We want to work for the preservation of the fire protection center because many employees want to stay in Sonthofen," says Josef Zengerle.

Some employees have been involved in local associations for years and contribute to social cohesion in Sonthofen through their voluntary work.

The fire protection center in Sonthofen is responsible for 3,600 fire service officers in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Among other things, the facility plans the deployment of personnel and operates a situation and command center for the fire brigade stations.
