France's National Fisheries Commission announced yesterday the closure of three Channel ports in a cautionary move to demand that fishing licenses be granted quickly after Britain leaves the European Union.
"We don't want handouts, we just want to get our licenses back, Britain must respect the Brexit agreement, there are still many fishermen waiting to resume their work," France 24 quoted committee chairman Gerard Rometty as saying, noting that the fishermen would prevent ferries from reaching three ports in the Channel Channel. They are Saint Malo, Westerham and Calais and they will prevent freight vehicles from reaching the charging station through the tunnel under the Channel for a few hours.”
"Eleven months have passed and we are waiting for the decision. Our patience has limits. We hope he will hear this warning without ruling out the hypothesis that no action will be taken in the future," Rometty added, considering this step as a response to the provocative and humiliating position of the British.
Rometty questioned the solidity of the Europeans' commitment in support of the European Union's fishermen, welcoming the ultimatum issued by the European Commission Wednesday, which asked London to settle this dispute by 10 December.
