From Tegernsee lake sauna to Rottach generation house: vaccination plus test means new hurdles

Vaccinated or recovered is no longer enough.

Whether lake sauna, exercise course at the adult education center or Caritas multi-generation house: 2G plus applies.

The tightening of the requirements is not exactly easy to cope with.

Tegernsee valley -

Daniela Hidalgo, operations manager of the Tegernsee lake sauna, likes to see things from the positive side.

“The quality of stay in the lake sauna is currently extremely good,” she says.

Where up to 160 people shared sweat baths and loungers in the time before Corona, at most 50 guests enjoy the spacious facility.

On Wednesday it was actually quite empty in the lake sauna.

"That is always the case when new rules apply again," knows Hildalgo.

"Then people are insecure." What is new this time: Whoever wants to go to the sauna not only has to be vaccinated or recovered, but also has to present a current negative test.

Medius test center in the Tegernsee spa garden proves to be a blessing

This applied for the first time on Wednesday, not all sauna visitors knew it.

Fortunately, the Medius with its test center in the Tegernsee spa garden is not far away, says Hidalgo.

For example, the lake sauna employees at the checkout had to turn away a number of visitors without a test, but they all came back shortly afterwards with the desired test result.

Nobody grumbled.

"The guests accept that this is important for safety," says Hidalgo.

If the new rule is in force for longer, the situation will stabilize - as has happened again and again in the course of the pandemic.

"We're making the best of the situation," says Hidalgo.

Difficult situation at the adult education center

The situation at the adult education center is less relaxed. 2G plus applies to all exercise courses and outdoor tours there.

"Because of the spacing regulations, our courses are already sewn to the edge", explains Thomas Mandl, head of the vhs in the Oberland.

If participants drop out because they do not want to be tested as vaccinated or convalescent, the whole course is no longer possible and has to be canceled.

Personally, Mandl is very critical of the Plus rule.

Requiring an additional test, he thinks, diminishes confidence in the vaccination and strengthens opponents in their attitude.

As a politician - Mandl sits on the Tegernsee city council for the SPD - he thinks it is wrong to encourage vaccination skeptics.

"There is distrust that the vaccination will not help."

For the vhs, the situation is already difficult in view of the Corona requirements, said Mandl.

Many courses are now conducted online or in hybrid form.

This format is even used in exercise courses such as yoga.

"We fight like lions for every course," reports Mandl.

The vhs team write to participants, phone afterwards and try to find individual solutions.

As a result, the work has become more, says the head of the vhs: "But it gets less stuck."

Multi-generation house organizes tests

The new regulation also poses a challenge for the Caritas multi-generation house (MGH) in Rottach-Egern. The company had established itself well under Corona requirements. "But for our visitors, getting a test can mean a lot of trouble," explains MGH director Petra Villinger. In order to make it easier for the elderly, Caritas wants to test visitors on site - as before. "But tests are now very difficult to come by," reports Villinger. Visitors would therefore have to bring their own tests, which are then carried out under supervision on site. In practice this is difficult to do. Caritas tries to procure large quantities of tests itself.

The situation looked bad on Wednesday, but it looked much better yesterday.

Villinger reports that the Caritas center has now received the approval of a supplier.

The MGH will probably receive corona self-tests in sufficient quantities as early as next week.

Villinger is relieved: "When visitors and volunteers can test themselves on site in the multigenerational house, fortunately there is no hurdle for the visit."
