Madonna criticized Instagram for removing photos from her page because part of her nipple was showing.

In a post on her verified account Thursday, the 63-year-old superstar said she had decided to repost the images after the social media site removed them for violating adult nudity rules.

The photos, showing the singer in a variety of fishnet stocking poses in a bedroom, were posted with emojis covering her nipples.

A spokesperson for Meta, Instagram's parent company, told CNN in a statement that photos that violate its rules are removed "as long as we find them, no matter who posts them."

Madonna said in a post to her 17 million followers: "I am re-posting photos that Instagram removed without notice or notice."

"The reason they gave my representatives - who do not manage my account - was that a small portion of my nipple was exposed."

"It still amazes me that we live in a culture that allows every inch of a woman's body to be shown except for one nipple."

"As if that were the only part of a woman's anatomy that could be sexualized. The nipple that nourishes the baby!"

He also compared the different rules that might exist for men and women.

"Can't you experience a man's nipple as erotic?" She wrote in the post, which has received more than 780,000 likes.

Many people congratulated her on the post, sending applause emojis and supportive comments in response, while others disagreed with the post's sentiment.

She added: "Giving thanks for having managed to maintain my sanity during four decades of censorship ... sexism ... age discrimination and misogyny."

A Meta spokesperson told CNN in a statement: "We remove content that breaks our rules every time we find it, no matter who publishes it."

"While we understand that not everyone will always agree on where we draw the line, our rules are designed to help keep everyone, of all ages, safe in our applications, while allowing room for as much expression as possible."

In accordance with its publicly available rules, the social media company restricts the "display of nudity or sexual activity because some people ... may be sensitive to this type of content."

However, he claims that his application of the rules has become more "nuanced" in recent years to allow posts showing nipples where a woman is breastfeeding, displaying a mastectomy scar, or participating in an act of protest.
