The World Health Organization held a meeting on November 26 to discuss the new variant strain B.1.1.529 of the new coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) in South Africa.
According to the WHO, the advisory panel recommended that it be listed as "variants of concern" and the variant virus strain should be named "omicron."
