Munich - Despite a strict no from the city of Munich, the last word has apparently not yet been spoken at the planned Event Arena on the grounds of Munich Airport. According to information from our newspaper, the working committee of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen GmbH made a recommendation for the project on Friday - albeit only with 51 percent. The representatives of the majority owner - i.e. the Free State of Bavaria - prevailed and recommended that the investor SW Munich Real Estate be given the property to the west of the airport. It is probably about a purchase price of 20 million euros. It is unclear whether the Supervisory Board will follow this recommendation, but it is considered likely. The supervisory board will meet on December 14th, and the airport's shareholders' meeting would then have to approve.

The city is strictly against the project and voted against it on Friday. Economic advisor Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU), a member of the airport's supervisory board, said on request that the city council decided on Thursday not to approve the hall plans. On the one hand, the proceeds from the purchase price would almost entirely be used up by the costs of developing the property. "On the other hand, it is to be feared that airport operations could have negative effects on hall operations."

What Baumgärtner does not say, of course, is that the city also fears competition from the construction of an event arena with up to 22,000 seats.

On the one hand to the already existing offer in the Olympiapark.

On the other hand, to the future.

Because the city council also agreed on Thursday to look for an investor for a new multifunctional hall on the park area.
