Like no other, he embodied the railway in Dorfen for decades: the federal railway official Josef Aigner died surprisingly at the age of 61.

Dorfen

- "You have to go to the Aigner".

That was the standard phrase when someone wanted to travel by train from Dorfen in Germany or Europe and wanted a perfect timetable and the cheapest ticket price.

“Der Aigner” from Dorfener Bahnhof was a cult for decades.

Now the Federal Railroad official Josef Aigner has suddenly and unexpectedly died at the age of 61.

His life can be described in one sentence: “His life was the railway,” says his sister-in-law Rosmarie.

Aigner was born as the second child of his parents Johann and Anna Aigner in Dorfen.

He grew up with his brother Hans on their parents' property in Oswaldberg.

After attending secondary school and later secondary school, Aigner began his training at Deutsche Bahn in 1977.

He remained loyal to the railway family until his death and worked at the travel center in Dorfen.

Aigner was there for the customers with passion.

And the stress in the small DB travel center could be so great, he was friendly and courteous, took a lot of time for advice.

"He was the calm person," say customers.

That was one of the reasons why he was popular.

How much he was appreciated is shown, among other things, by over 120 comments under a post on the Dorfen page on Facebook. "Mr. Aigner has corrected my negative image of the railway official in a really positive way", can be read there by a user. Another commented: “We deeply feel sorry for us. A good-hearted, friendly, incredibly helpful fellow left. ”And a woman from Erding confesses that she went to Dorfen on the upcoming train journey because Aigner“ gave so nice and good advice ”.

In 2008 Aigner received an unexpected honor. He was awarded the environmental prize of the city of Dorfen. The reasoning stated that in his capacity as an extremely competent advisor at the train ticket office in Dorfen train station, he had "made a major contribution to reducing CO2". In 2016, the deceased also received an award from his employer. Aigner achieved third place nationwide in the “Travel Center of the Year” competition. "It has been giving the Dorfen train station a face for many years," the railway official was paraphrased in the explanation.

SPD city councilor Heiner Müller-Ermann, who himself often traveled by train with his family and valued Aigner's competence, sums it up: “Oh, you DB managers in your Berlin Glaspalast, who you constantly give us some marketing advice. Geseier is annoying and at the same time lets stations and routes deteriorate. You could have learned from our man at the Dorfen train station how to do good to customers, and thus also to the railway, with passion and expertise. "

The railway was Aigner's great passion.

But he also had a second: agriculture.

His brother Hans, his wife and their daughters, that was Aigner's family.

He was there for them.

He helped in the agriculture in Oswaldberg as if it had been his own farm.

That was his hobby.

He sometimes went on excursions with this family or went to dinner with them.

Otherwise the deceased was happy at home.

Aigner wasn't in any club, and didn't go to the inn either.

Josef Aigner was, as it is recognized in Bavaria, “a hard-working, well-behaved Mo”, as the deceased's sister-in-law says.

Nobody expected his death.

Especially since he did not suffer from a serious illness.

He suddenly collapsed at home.

He quickly got better in the hospital.

The doctors were confident, as was Aigner.

But that night he suddenly died.

The deceased found his final resting place in the cemetery in Schwindkirchen.
