Sandra Maischberger scrutinized the new “Dare to Make More Progress” coalition and let a Bavarian intensive care doctor speak clearly.

Munich - It took eight weeks - now the coalition plan for "Freedom, Justice and Sustainability" is fixed on 177 pages. Hardly anything about the content and mood of the negotiations had previously been communicated to the outside world. At “Maischberger. The week “in the first should now be made up for. First of all, ARD veteran Deppendorf is allowed to put a basic prognosis in the room, which the German first three-party coalition calls "historical". "You can see from the contract how difficult the road will be," predicts the journalist, "it will be a damn difficult road!"

Representing the “traffic lights” are the designated SPD party chairman Lars Kingbeil (at 43 years the youngest in the history of the SPD) and FDP general Volker Wissing - acted as future transport minister - on the show.

Not together, however.

While Klingbeil can relax and chat extensively about the old days as a Juso boss and his nose piercing, Wissing is placed at the end of the program.

Virologist Protzer justifies the statements made by Markus Söder in the previous broadcast

The FDP man, who caused criticism with a tweet at the beginning of the month in which he described the German health system as “stable” and “secure”, was joined by virologist Prof. Ulrike Protzer at Maischberger.

In an interview with Maischberger last week, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder said about the leading virologist: Together with others, she would not have given sufficient warning about the current development.

"Maischberger.

The week "- these guests discussed with:

  • Lars Klingbeil (SPD)

    - Designated party chairman

  • Volker Wissing (FPD)

    - General Secretary, designated Minister of Transport

  • Prof. Ulrike Protzer

     - Professor at the Chair of Virology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM)

  • Dr.

    Manfred Wagner

     - Medical Director of the Fürth Clinic

As experts:

  • Ulrich Deppendorf -

editor-in-chief and head of the ARD capital studio

  • Cerstin Gammelin -

    Deputy Editor

for economic policy in the parliamentary office of the

    Süddeutsche Zeitung

  • Sascha Lobo -

    author

Maischberger is now directly asking the scientist: “Is that correct?” And wants to know whether the sentence made her angry. “Thoughtful”, if she would have voted for the statement, says Protzer, and raises concerns that the scientists may indeed not have been “loud enough” enough. According to Protzer, the booster should in fact have started earlier and the vaccination centers should not be closed after data from Israel in the summer showed that the vaccination protection had declined significantly after five months.

Protzer: “We have failed to maintain the vaccination capacities.” Wissing also admits the failings of the politicians: “The advice was polyphonic and very different.” Therefore, it is good that there is now a crisis team that “continuously evaluates” and there is also a “committee of experts” that is supposed to “submit to the federal government on a daily basis” what needs to be addressed.

Curious: Wissing speaks of the "future Federal Chancellor Olaf Schmidt" without either seeming to notice it or Maischberger correcting it.

The medical director reports from the Fürth clinic: "The situation is extremely tense"

The Medical Director of the Fürth Clinic, Dr. Manfred Wagner, who speaks very frankly to Maischberger about the situation in his intensive care unit. Wagner: "The desperation among the staff about politics is great here," admits the doctor, the situation is "extremely tense". Three operating theaters in the 800-bed clinic would have had to be closed in order to cope with the currently around a dozen Covid patients. His ward was already overcrowded with an intensive care bed.

If the number of inquiries increases, patients would not be rejected as a result, but rather the staff would have to be further burdened.

The “cloverleaf procedure” has also been activated since today: Covid patients from heavily affected areas, including his state of Bavaria, are being relocated to the less affected regions in the north of the country by plane.

Kevin Kühnert as leader of the SPD parliamentary group?

Klingbeil replies meaningfully

Maischberger grabs his teeth from her next guest, Lars Klingbeil, trying to tease out a few internal issues from the negotiations. Klingbeil only presents easily digestible snacks: "The discussions were tough," said the SPD man. Everyone had "fought passionately", nevertheless it was "always top human". Klingbeil is also keeping a low profile about the SPD ministerial election, only the equal distribution announced by Olaf Scholz, Klingbeil confirms.

“Will Kevin Kühnert become SPD parliamentary group leader?” Maischberger insists, “and Karl Lauterbach Minister of Health”. And also adds: Even if neither of them are women? Klingbeil has to grin at the moderator's eagerness, refuses to answer in both cases - but also a resounding no. The SPD man emphasizes in both cases that the party is “proud” and “happy” to have both comrades in the party. Klingbeil's prognosis for the next few years is a “social democratic decade” with a focus on limiting global warming and digitization, and announces that the upheaval will “demand a lot from people”.

When asked about compulsory vaccination, Klingbeil replied to the applause of the audience that he personally thinks that politicians are allowed to “change their minds” on “such issues” and criticizes nurses' refusal to vaccinate.

This is part of "the solidarity that I also expect in society," said the future party leader.

Conclusion of the “Maischberger.

The week "talks

An information-laden broadcast.

There was also a lot going on this Wednesday evening: the end of the “pandemic situation” with soaring corona numbers, the burden on the health system that makes many citizens fearful.

Plus the new coalition and the announcement of more progress, but also a lot of uncertainty in the air.

In order not to make the show too difficult, Maischberger tries a mix of tough questions, sad facts and a little trivial.

That seemed a bit overloaded at times.
