The parents' protest did not fail to have its effect: the Garmisch-Partenkirchen community installed guide elements in Ludwigstrasse between the sidewalk and the lane.

This is intended to increase safety, especially for school children.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

- The incident made waves - and caused a fire letter from concerned parents to the town hall administration: In October, a horror accident happened on Schornstrasse in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which luckily ended relatively mildly. Four elementary school students were dragged along by a car and miraculously remained almost unscathed (we reported).

The parents' council of the Bürgermeister-Schütte primary and secondary school was shocked - and pointed out another "explosive hazard": the lower Ludwigstrasse, which is open to traffic in both directions until mid-December due to the construction site.

According to the tenor, especially for school children, this bottleneck creates dangerous situations, as there is neither a sidewalk nor barriers.

"How is that supposed to be in winter, when it's dark or slippery or when the mountains of snow narrow the road?" Asked the parents.

As a “child-friendly municipality”, Marktgemeinde consults with the police

The market town, which sees itself as a “child-friendly municipality”, has now reacted after consulting the police and temporarily installed so-called guide elements between the sidewalk on the right and the lane in the neuralgic section. According to the calculation, these should increase the protection of pedestrians, especially school children. According to a press release, the market has a duty to protect areas with greater risk potential. In the darker months of the year, special attention and mutual consideration are required on the morning trips to school in some parts of the town. “The main concern for us is the safety of school children. You deserve our full attention, ”says Mayor Elisabeth Koch (CSU)."But all other road users are also important to us, which is why we look for the best possible solution for everyone in each individual case."

The action in the lower Ludwigstrasse is limited in time. From mid-December to spring, i.e. during the winter construction break on the Faukengerinne, there is again the single-lane southwards as usual, since the traffic can then be directed via Schnitzschulstraße. During this period, the elements will be removed to ensure that the snow is cleared.

And what do the parents say?

An initial reaction is positive.

“That will definitely help,” says Heike Henig, chairman of the parents' council at the Schütte elementary school, with a view to the limitations.

She has been assured that these will be expanded.

The wildlife parkers on the sidewalks of Ludwigstrasse are a nuisance.

The children would then have to take to the streets and put themselves in danger again.

In this context, Henig hopes for stricter controls and hefty penalties in order to master the problem.

And she already has other focal points on the way to school.

A planned survey among parents should provide information on this.

You want to hand over the list to the public order office.

Henig: “It goes on.

We stay tuned."
