Damascus-SANA
Today, the Indian Embassy in Damascus celebrated the 72nd anniversary of the Indian Constitution Day, which falls on November 26 of each year.
Indian Ambassador Mahinder Singh Kanyal Bean told SANA that the Indian constitution is the loftiest and highest legislation after India's independence from British occupation and considering it an independent and sovereign country in the world. It defines basic political principles, rights and duties.
Regarding the Syrian-Indian relations, the Indian ambassador affirmed that India and Syria have historical and brotherly friendship relations that are getting stronger at all political, economic, cultural and academic levels.
For his part, President of the Syrian Association of the United Nations, Dr. George Jabbour, noted the importance of India's participation in its celebration of Constitution Day, to confirm the distinguished relations between the two countries.
The Indian Constitution came into force in 1950 after it was adopted by the Indian Constitutional Assembly and studied and scrutinized after the country’s independence in 1947. The constitution guarantees social and economic justice and freedom of thought, expression and belief for all citizens, promotes brotherhood among them and protects the dignity and unity of the individual.
