Unterallgäu - It's a great reception when the Unterallgäu district awards its sponsorship award for exemplary senior projects every two years - at least that was the case with the last four awards.

The fifth award ceremony took place on a very small scale due to the corona situation.

"But we want to enjoy what is possible," said District Administrator Alex Eder when he greeted us.

The municipality of Rammingen took first place with the neighborhood aid “SoS - Don't worry”.

The second prize went to the senior citizens' community Babenhausen-Unterallgäu with "Citizens support senior citizens" and third place went to the Wolfertschwenden community with their lunch menu "It tastes better in company".

The close environment affects the quality of aging

"You and all your helpers make life in our communities more livable," emphasized Eder.

Hubert Plepla, coordinator of the senior citizens' concept at the Unterallgäu district office, encouraged people to think about getting old: "In terms of time, we all age at the same rate - but the quality is individual." The radius of movement becomes smaller with age. ”The projects in one's own community, in one's own quarter, in one's own neighborhood are of particular importance.

There are many such projects in the Unterallgäu, which grew out of the district's senior citizens' concept.

Lots of good senior projects: The jury was spoiled for choice

How difficult it was for the jury to choose among the submitted projects, Plepla humorously explained during his impressive ball juggling.

He explained how the jury sorted the projects, focused again and again, how everything was mixed up and then steered back into order.

Everything turned in circles - until the winners were determined.

  • First prize:

    “SoS - don't worry!

The Ramminger neighborhood help and care group “:

This project arose from the development of the neighborhood.

In the meantime, more than 30 volunteers are involved in this project, for example providing neighborhood help, there is a mobile phone consultation, sitting dance and a social fund.

  • Second prize:

    With their

    project “Citizens Support Seniors”

    , the

    Babenhausen-Unterallgäu

    senior citizens' community

    was

    the first neighborhood

    aid

    in the district.

The voluntary helpers not only help with shopping and household chores, there is also a driving service for senior citizens.

Even during the lockdown, the team worked tirelessly.

At Christmas, the initiative ensures that nobody has to celebrate alone.

  • Third prize:

    The

lunch menu “It tastes better in company” from the Wolfertschwenden community

    is a meeting point.

At lunch together, solidarity is strengthened and a mindful, caring community has emerged.

Lunch was delivered during the lockdown.

Sponsorship award for civic and charitable projects

The award goes to civic and non-profit projects that successfully shape the social space for older people and thereby improve the living conditions for senior citizens in the respective community.

The ten-person jury consists of members of the district council and independent experts from senior work.

The first prize is endowed with 3,000 euros.

The second with 2,000, the third with 1,000 euros.

All submitted projects receive a recognition award of 100 euros.
