Vaccination center asks volunteers for help

The fears that the head of the vaccination center in Peißenberg, Christian Achmüller, had expressed in the local newspaper these days have been confirmed: The delivery quantities of the Biontech vaccine for the coming week have been drastically reduced.

Peißenberg

- "We had ordered 3,000 vaccine doses, at the end of the day 1200 were promised," said Achmüller yesterday. There is plenty of “Moderna” vaccine for this - a total of 4,000 doses have been advised. Operation in the vaccination center can therefore continue. And there is currently vaccination in the piece.

This is due to the demand for initial vaccinations, but above all to the booster vaccinations, which are increasing more and more, according to Achmüller. In the meantime, however, the personnel are reaching the limits of what is affordable. "We were very lucky because the district administrator showed foresight in the summer and extended the contract with the vaccination center," said Achmüller. As a result, the staff could be retained and now that the need is immense again, you can rely on a permanent base of experienced employees. "Of course, it also helped that we were able to operate the test station in the Penzberg town hall as a bridging", he says.

As a result, the problems that are currently being faced in Peißenberg are still manageable.

In the neighboring district of Landsberg am Lech, where the vaccination center was closed for cost reasons, it looks much more difficult.

"You just can't find enough employees in a hurry to build such a vaccination center out of the ground," says Achmüller.

The situation is exacerbated by the fact that employees are now being sought everywhere: not only in the vaccination centers, but also the numerous test stations need more staff to cope with the onslaught.

"We would therefore be very happy if people would support us on a voluntary basis," said Achmüller. Ideally, the helpers - who are also financially compensated - should have at least one day a week. "So you need a bit of flexibility, you should also be able to use a computer and have a driver's license," said the head of the vaccination center. In terms of age, everyone is welcome who wants to help - from schoolchildren to sprightly senior citizens.

"We need help both during the week and on the weekends," says Achmüller. If you have time for a full ten-hour day, that would be great. If not, you can find a flexible solution. For example, yesterday in Weilheim the volunteers at the Tafel were vaccinated: “That would be an appointment where a volunteer could lend a hand.” Anyone who is interested and wants to help should simply send an email to info @ impfzentrum -wm.de write.

That would help a lot to relax the staffing situation in the vaccination center.

Because the Peissenbergers not only have to keep the vaccination campaign going in the Weilheim-Schongau district, they also have to pay for the failures of other districts.

"Around half of all visitors we have in the vaccination center come from other districts," said Achmüller.

Until the summer it was the case that you were only allowed to be vaccinated in the district in which you are registered.

However, this regulation has been overturned and now anyone can be immunized anywhere.

And because Peißenberg is a functioning vaccination center with a good reputation, people from Landsberg, from the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district and even from Munich come there to pick up the vaccinations.
