Biontech's vaccine rationing had attracted criticism.
Now the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Health explains: apparently the vaccine is also being rationed by Moderna.
Berlin - The Federal Ministry of Health caused a stir at the beginning of the week after plans for the maximum dose of the Biontech vaccine were announced to general practitioners.
The project had caused criticism and incomprehension.
Now it is known: Apparently the vaccine is also to be rationed by Moderna.
According to information from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Health, not only the Biontech vaccine but also the Moderna vaccine should be rationed by the federal government.
In some cases, it should no longer be possible to order this at all.
"On the one hand, we cannot ramp up the vaccination offensive and at the same time the vaccine is rationed," said a spokesman for the authorities in Stuttgart on Friday.
While experts are calling for vaccinations: the federal government is now also rationing vaccines from Moderna
Health Minister Manne Lucha contacted the acting Federal Minister Jens Spahn at the beginning of the week to get an additional delivery from Moderna at short notice. "We are now expecting a special delivery of 120,000 cans of Moderna today," said the spokesman for the authorities. But even this amount is far from sufficient. According to the Ministry of Health, a doctor's practice only receives 30 doses of Biontech per week, vaccination centers can only order 1,020 doses per week. "A vaccination center usually vaccinates this amount per day."
The country's vaccination offensive is in full swing.
“And we don't have as much vaccine now as we'd like to inoculate to meet the high demand.
By the end of the year we need at least 3.5 million doses of mRNA vaccines in order to be able to adequately supply the people in Baden-Württemberg, ”said the spokesman for the Ministry of Health.
Rationed corona vaccine: Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn announces 18 million doses
If Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn has his way, the necessary vaccine quantities are available. At the joint press conference with RKI boss Lothar Wieler, Spahn said that the federal government will have delivered 18 million doses for booster vaccinations within ten days. Given the goal of 20 to 30 million “booster” vaccinations by Christmas
, this is “a pretty big step towards that”. In the past seven days there have been 3.5 million vaccinations.
There is enough vaccine in the overall system, said Spahn. At the same time, he pointed out that there could be delays in distributing the vaccinations in the logistics from wholesalers via pharmacies to practices due to changes in the increase in vaccinations.
The corona mutation, which has now been newly discovered in South Africa, is causing unrest internationally, and voices for immediate consequences are also being heard in Germany.
Meanwhile, the number of infections in Germany is increasing sharply.
