At the beginning of the year it was decided to leave the old youth center to the "Free Artists Peißenberg".

The renovation work has not yet started.

The bureaucracy took its toll.

“Waiting and patience is the mother of all virtues”: Moritz Hummig, front man of the “Free Artists Peißenberg” association, is currently practicing gallows humor - he has no other choice. He and his colleagues had long fought for the discarded Juze on St. Georgenweg. Last January, the majority of the market council finally awarded the contract to turn the ruined building into a cultural meeting place for young artists with concert and rehearsal rooms. The club couldn't get started right away because it wasn't officially a club yet. The bureaucratic hurdles dragged the schedule out. It was only a month and a half ago that the club's entry was fixed. Now “only” the lease is missing.

For a long time, Hummig had no way of entering old Juze.

He recently received the keys from the town hall administration.

The community took care of the outside - but inside?

Nothing.

Mold has formed on the floors, in the kitchen and on the counter.

“The problem is that there was no ventilation or heating for a year and a half,” regrets Hummig.

He is also concerned that the supply lines could burst in winter.

“Free artists” want to buy buildings

He also announced all of this to the town hall administration: “I asked what kind of handover it was supposed to be.

When we solemnly get the building, but it's so rotten that you can't let people in.

How does that work? ”According to his own admission, he has offered several times to take care of the maintenance for his own account and liability - without success.

Hummig, however, holds back verbally.

“As long as the lease is right, I don't want to complain and I accept everything.

Then I don't care. "

The “free artists” want to buy the old Juze after a transitional phase - namely when the cultural meeting point has been opened and started up. For Hummig this is not negotiable: "If I put all my money into the renovation, I want to buy the building too." To be more precise: The association would officially be the buyer - and Hummig the financier. He has already invested 2,000 euros out of his own pocket. A few days ago he set up a heater and a ventilator to de-mold the building. He has also already ordered heating oil. "When we get started, our helpers should be warm after all," says Hummig. However, the “free artists” currently cannot do more than wait for the lease: “We have the keys - but we are only allowed to clean them.“The municipality has not yet allowed structural renovation measures.

90 year old oven for "pizza parties"

Hummig has already stored a few utensils in the Juze - such as the around 90-year-old oven in the former “Preisinger” café in Steingaden.

Prince regent cakes used to be baked in it, and the "free artists" want to use it for "pizza parties".

At home, Hummig has collected "tons of stuff" for the later establishment of the old Juzes.

Including a 200-year-old oak cabinet, a piano and a half VW Beetle converted into a bench.

He has received a lot in donations: "People ask me when it will finally start and whether they can join in," says Hummig.

Now everything depends on the lease: “We are in the starting blocks and waiting for the go”, says Hummig.
