South Africa has recorded 50 cases of the new omicron mutant of the Corona virus in the past 24 hours.
The Associated Press quoted Rudu Mativa, head of the intensive care unit at Paragwanth Hospital, as saying, "We know we have a new mutant, and the worst-case scenario is that it hits us like the Delta mutant."
The medical authorities in South Africa have so far recorded 77 cases of the Omicron strain, which has led to a rapid increase in the number of confirmed infections with the Corona virus.
The Omicron strain raised a state of alert all over the world, and several countries, especially in Europe, rushed to suspend flights from six African countries.
