Damascus-SANA

A new round of negotiations will be launched in the Austrian capital, Vienna, tomorrow, between Iran and the Four Plus One Group to revive the 2015 nuclear agreement, amid the Iranian side's insistence on lifting all sanctions imposed on the country following the US withdrawal from the agreement 3 years ago.

The nuclear negotiations began in Vienna last April, and six rounds were held, and they were taking place indirectly, with European diplomats communicating with both American and Iranian officials because Iran refuses to communicate directly with the United States.

Over the past rounds of talks, Iran has shown great seriousness to reach satisfactory results and stressed many points, the most important of which is the lifting of all US sanctions in terms of quantity and quality, which were imposed under several labels and stipulated verification of the lifting of sanctions before Tehran returns to its obligations. It also insisted on obtaining US guarantees and pledges. Not to renege later on what will be agreed upon and refuse to link the agreement in Vienna to negotiations later on other issues such as its missile program and regional policy.

In the face of the lack of seriousness of the American side in reaching an agreement, Iran made reservations on two points, the first regarding the path taken by the negotiations during the past six rounds and the American orientation in them, and the second point about the behavior of the current American administration and European parties towards the nuclear agreement since President Joe Biden took power last January.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stressed, after assuming power last August, that any negotiation on the nuclear agreement must preserve the interests and rights of the Iranian people, in parallel with the United States and European countries respecting their commitments stipulated in the agreement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian affirmed today, in a video message, to explain the performance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the foreign policy apparatus during the past 100 days, that his country is serious about negotiating and reaching an agreement on its nuclear program to ensure the interests of the Iranian people and to abolish the US-Western embargo.

Abdullahian said that "one of the topics that the diplomatic apparatus has been interested in during the last period is the nuclear agreement, the Vienna negotiations, dealing and cooperation within the framework of the rights and interests of the Iranian people and the International Atomic Energy Agency." Vienna will focus on the United States returning to the agreement signed in 2015, stressing that Washington's hostile methods against Tehran are bound to fail.

It is noteworthy that the nuclear agreement was reached on July 14, 2015 in Vienna after arduous negotiations that lasted for several years between Iran and the Five Plus One Group, which includes France, Britain, Russia, China and America, in addition to Germany, but former US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 In 2018, withdrawing from the agreement and returning to the policy of imposing sanctions on Iran, while the rest of the signatories stressed the need for the agreement to remain and adhere to it, given the international need it represents.
