At 7 o'clock in the evening today (27th), outside of Tian Jian Building, Tian Wan Village, Aberdeen, a man called the police for help, saying that he was bitten by a big wild boar while delivering food at the address.

The ambulanceman arrived at the scene to check the man’s injuries and found that there was a 6 cm long wound on the back of his right thigh, so he bandaged him, but the man refused to be sent to the hospital for treatment.

The police patrolled the surrounding hillsides of the building and found no trace of wild boars, so they closed the team and left.

The reporter of "Hong Kong 01" saw a big wild boar walking and looking for food on the hillside with several wild boar BBs at the scene. No hostility towards people passing by was seen.

On the evening of the 9th of this month, a wild boar attacked humans on Temple Road in Tin Hau, North Point.

A 52-year-old auxiliary policeman and his colleagues received a report that a wild boar was wandering at the upper site and went to the scene to deal with the incident.

The assistant policeman did not hold a shield and was chased by a male wild boar. He was knocked down 3 times by the wild boar and attacked him at least 7 times with his mouth open.

The auxiliary policeman was bitten on his hip and foot and injured his back. After the wild boar was injured, he jumped off a 10-meter-deep hillside and died from his injuries.

After the wild boar attack on the police occurred, the Fisheries and Conservation Department announced on the 12th that from now on, wild boars that haunt the urban area will be captured regularly. The Protection Ordinance expands the prohibited areas for wild animal feeding and prohibits artificial feeding of wild animals in order to reduce the number of wild boars and their nuisance.

The AFCD’s new policy has aroused social controversy and concerns from all walks of life. Many animal protection organizations urged the AFCD to withdraw its decision, but the AFCD insisted on implementing the humanitarian destruction plan.

The Fisheries and Conservation Department also took action on Shum Wan Road in Aberdeen on the evening of the 17th. On one side, the officers cast bait and surrounded the wild boars with iron nets on the other. Afterwards, the officers fired anesthesia guns to capture 7 wild boars and used drug injections for humane destruction.

Fisheries and Conservation Department: 17 cases of wild boar injuries were recorded this year

The Fisheries and Conservation Department issued a press release yesterday (26th) stating that there has been a clear upward trend in the number of injuries caused by wild boars in recent years.

A total of 42 wild boar injuries were recorded from 2011 to yesterday, of which 36 have occurred since 2018.

This year, 17 cases of wild boar injuries have been recorded. In November alone, as many as 6 cases of wild boar injuries have been recorded.

The 42 wild boar wounding cases involved a total of 53 wounded, including 8 elders and 2 children, of which 6 were seriously injured and required surgery.

The soaring trend of the number of cases and injuries clearly shows that wild boars have posed a great threat to public safety.

It is necessary for the government to take decisive action to deal with the problem of wild boar nuisance.

The Fisheries and Conservation Department will continue to regularly use wild boar capture operations to prioritize black spots that have been infested with a large number of wild boars, wild boars have injured people or pose a danger to the public, in order to protect the safety of the public and maintain public health.

In addition, when receiving reports from the public about the occurrence of wild boars in urban areas, the AFCD will also capture and humanely handle wild boars that pose a potential danger or cause nuisance to the public.
