Mindelheim / Nürnberg - Patrick Reimer wrote German ice hockey history on Wednesday evening: In the 55th minute, the captain of the Nürnberg Ice Tigers delivered the template to make it 3-1 and thus also secured the victory against the Krefeld Penguins.

The special thing about it: With 798 points scorer (goals plus assists), the 38-year-old is now the best DEL attacker of all time!

Gregor MacLeod also played a major role in this “milestone”, as Patrick Reimer later described his record: After Reimer held the puck in the Krefeld third five minutes before the end of the game and then played it deep in front of the goal to Ryan Stoa, MacLeod and the young Canadian also bagged Reimer's record assist with his 3-1 goal.

In the 8th minute, the native of Mindelheim had already paved the way with the opening goal.

What Patrick Reimer says about his record

“In all honesty, I have to say that I am proud of the record. But it's also just a development over the years, ”says Reimer. “You don't go into a career and say, 'I want to break this record,' but it happens.” For example, he seldom got injured, played alongside “very good ice hockey players” and always felt the trust of the coach, explains the 38-year-old on request. "That's why it's a shared record."

So far, Reimer has mainly been celebrated in social networks, including a number of fans and Reimer's ex-clubs ESV Kaufbeuren and the Düsseldorfer EG (once DEG Metro Stars) - the Mindelheimer also had a few years with the previous record holder Daniel Kreutzer in the latter Team played. When asked whether he was celebrated by his team-mates from Nuremberg, the 38-year-old says: "We are in a phase in which there are a lot of games and it is not possible to throw huge parties." Even in view of the corona situation, they don't want to risk anything at the moment, but make up for the big party after the end of the season.

After a “bumpy start to the season”, the 38-year-old sees his Ice Tigers back on track.

The change in the coaching bench was also good, says Reimer.

Nuremberg is currently ninth in the table, ten teams are playing for the championship after the main round.

“The playoffs should be our goal,” says Reimer, who should set the next milestone in December with the 1,000 DEL game mark.
