on Saturday lunchtime.

Ebersberg

- The intensive care unit at the Ebersberg District Clinic has finally reached its capacity limit. The clinic has increased to 24 intensive care beds, 20 of which can be ventilated, according to managing director Stefan Huber. Nevertheless, the forces are no longer sufficient for the inpatient care of all emergency patients. "After an accident, for example, people receive initial treatment in the central emergency room, but then have to be transferred if they need care in an intensive care unit," said the district office. The reason for this is the full bed occupancy and a staff shortage.

The situation is precarious for emergency patients, the district administrator emphasizes in an urgent statement: "Unfortunately, the usual security that care is possible in our clinic cannot be guaranteed at the moment," says Robert Niedergesäß.

He appeals to the citizens: "The responsibility of each individual and solidarity in this emergency situation are now very central."

District Administrator: The usual supply cannot be guaranteed at the moment

The rescue control center Erding-Freising-Ebersberg is trying to find a free intensive care bed in another clinic for emergency patients.

"This is problematic because the situation in all the surrounding clinics is extremely tense," the district office continues.

Clinic boss Stefan Huber gives worrying numbers on Friday afternoon: According to this, ten Covid patients have to be treated in the Ebersberg intensive care unit, all of them with invasive, artificial ventilation.

None of them are currently eligible for relocation as part of the nationwide clover leaf strategy, their condition is too bad.

Only one of the patients was vaccinated.

There were 24 corona patients in the normal ward, 13 of whom were vaccinated.

"Anyone who dies of Covid is over 90 or not vaccinated," says Huber.

"We definitely have a vaccination problem at the moment."

Relocations to Schleswig-Holstein conceivable

The clinic had cut back operations on the normal wards in order to pull together staff from anesthesia and the operating rooms in intensive care. To this end, even cancer operations would be postponed, as far as justifiable. The clinic has long since stopped complying with the tightened staffing key, which is responsible for a nominal decline in intensive care beds over the summer, and is now providing twice as many beds as it would provide. And yet it is not enough. Relocations to Hesse or even Schleswig-Holstein are conceivable in the coming days.

In view of the collapsing emergency supply, the only thing left for politicians is a desperate appeal for common sense and cohesion.

"Each of us is now called upon to minimize risks in daily life with prudence, caution and mindfulness, thus also to avoid accidents as far as possible and thus the need for intensive treatment," said the district administrator in a press release.

“Speed down - safety up,” he calls for careful driving.

And to help older people go shopping when the snow is slippery, in order to reduce the risk of injury.

Bundeswehr support in the Ebersberg district clinic

Ten soldiers from the Bad Reichenhall Mountain Infantry Battalion arrived at the district clinic on Thursday. According to their information, they support the clinic in various specialist areas from the kitchen to the intensive care unit. "We are incredibly grateful in all areas," says clinic spokeswoman Katharina Ober. They are not medical professionals. "That should just be a relief."

The clinic can also use it with the current omens.

"We expect a continuous increase in the number of Covid patients until Christmas," says managing director Huber.

Not to mention the risk of contagion on the holidays: “Then everyone will come back together.” In addition, a seasonal increase in other emergencies such as accidents or heart attacks is noticeable.

"We are in complete disaster mode," said Huber.

"No good prospects." He and the district administrator join the incessant expert canon, calling for immunization, regardless of whether it is a first dose or a booster: "Vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate!"
