Ahead of the elections this Sunday in Honduras, Michelle Bachelet, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, expressed her deep concern about the political violence in the Central American country.
For its part, the National Autonomous University of Honduras carries out a systematic observation on political violence for four electoral processes, and concludes that homicides are the most used form of violence against political actors.
Migdonia Ayestas, director of the National Observatory of Violence at the National Autonomous University of Honduras, affirms that many of these attacks "are based on these confrontational discourses, these discourses that encourage violence at the base of their political parties."
