The former street prostitute still attracts suitors - women feel harassed there.

Regensburg - For many years Guerickestrasse was a hotspot for prostitution in Regensburg *.

Over the years, however, the business almost fell asleep there.

Nevertheless, sex work in the area is now to be officially banned, writes the

Mittelbayerische Zeitung

.

The reason: The image of the street prostitute still clings to Guerickestrasse.

Customers regularly turn up there who think that there is still an offer there, explains Thomas Kuhnt.

He is the project manager for the development of the district.

Regensburg: Women feel harassed by suitors

The men apparently address women at random, including minors.

There were already indications of this at a citizens' meeting in 2019. The women would feel badly harassed by the address.

Some are so scared that they no longer want to be in the neighborhood during the day.

The topic will therefore be on the agenda in the city committees from next week.

The parties of the ruling coalition then want to vote for an official ban on street prostitution in Guerickestrasse.

“Then it is clear: This is no longer allowed here and no longer desired.

And we hope that word will get around, ”emphasizes Thomas Kuhnt.

For the residents of the district this is an "important sign that we are doing something".

Regensburg: The ban has no disadvantages for resident prostitutes

Prostitutes working in Regensburg will not have any disadvantages due to the ban, say politicians and neighborhood management.

Since there have been no sex workers on the street in Guerickestrasse for years, the ban will not displace them.

There is also no fear that the sex worker scene will shift to illegality: "It was the trend of the past few years that prostitution was moving to the apartments," explains Jürgen Eberwein from the CSU.
