The community has now taken 18,000 euros in hand for this and opened a new dog park.

Poing - to finally let dogs romp around safely without a leash was the wish of many Poing owners.

The community has now complied with this: The first fenced-in dog run area has now opened at Kirchheimer Allee.

There is already a dog meadow on Bergfeldstrasse in Poing Nord.

However, this is not completely fenced: "This is a problem, especially with young dogs, if they see something, you won't get them called back," says dog owner Glenn Ehrig.

Especially with the Bergfeldstrasse there is a great danger that the dogs could be run over.

New dog meadow opened in Poing: The owner turned to Mayor Thomas Stark with an idea

In addition, the number of dog owners has increased enormously because of the pandemic, explains Ehrig.

That is why an area on which the dogs can walk without a leash is all the more important so that the dogs socialize and exchange ideas with other dogs.

When Ehrig was walking his black Labrador "Blacky" again at Kirchheimer Allee, he had the idea that there would be the right place for a fenced dog meadow.

That is why he turned to Mayor Thomas Stark at a public consultation at the beginning of the year.

Together with the construction depot, they then inspected the meadow: “And that's how it all started,” remembers Stark.

When it came to the height and stability of the fence, the motto for him was: “Better to have a stable fence than a wobbly one that has to be replaced every two years,” he says.

The fence is 1.80 meters high so that even large dogs cannot jump over it.

The total cost of fencing in the 1,300 square meters was around 18,000 euros - including the dog toilet.

The community took over the costs in full, it is said.

At the same time Ehrig offered the mayor to participate in the area through his own initiative.

So the association "Hundefreunde Poing" was founded, which wants to sponsor the new dog park.

They mainly take care of the cleanliness, so Ehrig, first board member of the association.

On the fenced-in dog exercise area, it is now possible for the masters to meet and chat with one another in a relaxed manner, while the dogs can safely have fun.

Similar to a playground when parents let their children play, Ehrig said.

"Dogs are not much different from children, only that children grow up and dogs remain children," summarizes Ehrig.

And the first few days have already shown him that the area is already being visited well and with pleasure.
