New York Governor Kathy Hochhol declared a state of emergency in preparation for the response to the new coronavirus (Omicron) mutant.
Reuters quoted Hochul as saying today that there are warning signs of high rates of Covid-19 infection this winter, although the new Omicron mutant has not been discovered in New York, but "it is coming."
Hochul pointed out that it takes several weeks for scientists to fully identify the mutations of the strain and whether the available vaccines and treatments are effective in combating it.
The World Health Organization classified Omicron, which was first detected in South Africa, as a “worrying” strain, which is the fifth version of the Corona virus placed in this classification.
