MKs chose Yitzhak Herzog well • After six months in office, an important achievement can be attributed to him: he is neither annoying nor annoying

It can be said, at least in my opinion: Most of the Knesset members did well when they secretly elected Yitzhak Herzog president.

After six months in office, the 11th president can be credited with one important achievement that should not be underestimated: he is neither annoying nor annoying.

At least, so far.

The president may do any act that is not avoided by law.

Tonight, for example, he will light a Hanukkah candle in the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron.

There are those who make this gesture of communion with the patriarchs of the nation in Hebron, a holiday that symbolizes rebellion in assimilation, yes annoying, and Herzog is aware of this.

They will always be disturbed, even if the president, the grandson of the former chief rabbi of Eretz Yisrael, carries a prayer near the Western Wall stones.

There is no shortage of people who follow to locate a blemish that may have fallen in his actions or speech.

When he was elected president, the question arose: which way will he choose to act during his seven years in office? Will he, as usual, try to "unite the people" while giving a speech that is poor in practice but full of rhetoric? It seems that the president has chosen to act in a path where he will take advantage of his long experience in public, political activity. In fact, it was reality that forced him to engage in foreign affairs. He was a key figure in the effort to rescue the Israelis who got into the strange entanglement in Turkey.

And yet, after the absurd arrest affair ended - there was no trumpet blast from the presidential residence, or a statement intended to glorify his name. It also does not rush to stand in front of a camera battery. He has just returned from a visit to London from a meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Herzog, in his restrained ("British"?) Style, thanked his host for the British decision to outlaw any move that has an expression of support for Hamas. Johnson also sounds like he thinks Iran should be stopped. These contacts gained prominence, but it was made clear on behalf of the president: Herzog does not strive to compete with anyone at the top to intervene in foreign affairs. Yes, Minister Lapid need not fear. He has almost seven more years before the president, and at the end of it, as it seems now, he will not move towards the Prime Minister's Office. He is content with honoring local events: from Bnei Brak to Kfar Qassem.

I think that right now the president deserves to take a dramatic step, requested: from the throne, I hope he initiates a call for the establishment of a state commission of inquiry into the alleged crimes committed in Gilboa prison:

Who would have guessed that such an abomination would take place in the body of the state, under the guidance of civil servants and in the execution of degrading prison officers?

Parents send their daughters to serve in the IDF, the army of us all. And now they are anxious that their daughters were also forced to fulfill such a damn task. This is not a matter for a commission of inquiry or a police investigation only. If established, it will be an investigation that will result in a thorough, much-needed cleansing mission in the incarceration system.

Were we wrong?
