Opinion | Israel, the new publisher and bringer in the region Israel today

The real importance of the Avraham agreements lies in the fact that they have turned Israel from a concubine, with whom everyone hides their relationship, into a key player in every development in the region.

From day to day, the intensity of the change that the Avraham agreements in Israel-Arab relations brought about is becoming clearer.

It is a mistake to see them as another agreement, in addition to the peace agreements that Israel has signed so far.

This is a groundbreaking move that has caused a real stir in our region.

Anwar al-Sadat, the president of Egypt, who turned 44 this month on his historic visit to Jerusalem, will always have the right to be the first to crack down, along with Menachem Begin, the wall of animosity that divided Israel and the Arabs.

The peace agreement with Egypt, and later with Jordan, were therefore important agreements, which removed the danger of war and brought calm and stability to the borders.

But there was no real peace here, for the clauses of normalization that were included in them were never realized, and peace remained cold and even frozen, a peace of rulers and of interests.

In the "happy days of Oslo", when something seemed to have changed in the Arab world's approach to Israel, Shimon Peres, as Foreign Minister in the Rabin government, raised the idea of Israel joining the Arab League, as equals.

Needless to say, his proposal did not receive any response, and Arab countries did not bother to comment on it at all.

All this changed with the signing of the Abrahamic Covenants.

These became a source of inspiration, and moreover created a new model for Israeli-Arab relations - relations that have warmth and extensive cooperation - replacing the missing models of Israeli relations with Egypt and Jordan.

But their real importance lies in the fact that they have turned Israel from a mistress, with whom everything hides their relationship with her or from many other players on the Middle East chess board, into a central player in every development in the region.

In recent months, Israel has been asked by Egypt to help it find a solution to the crisis that erupted with Ethiopia over the question of the Resurrection Dam (Hanahda).

Israel is also assisting Cairo in the fight against ISIS terrorism in the Sinai Peninsula.

In Sudan, Israel is helping to resolve the dispute between the military and the government, and it turns out that its influence in Khartoum is even greater than that of Washington, which has even asked Jerusalem to assist in its efforts to restore stability to the country.

In Morocco, Defense Minister Bnei Gantz visited last week and signed a series of security agreements.

Morocco has made the visit public, hoping Israel will help it deal with terrorist threats and international pressure on the Sahara.

In Libya, the candidates in the presidential election express support for normalization with Israel, and the son of one of them, General Khalifa Hefter, even visited Israel.

Gone are, therefore, the days when the great powers ruled the region and determined its fate.

These have lost all interest in it, and it seems that Arab countries are also careful to rely on them as in the past for their security.

Gone are the days when the Arab League was a unifying and unifying factor, a framework for discussion and a forum for decision-making to which all Arab states were committed.

Iran and Turkey, which sought to lead the region a decade ago, are also discovering that no one wants or trusts them anymore.

All of this created an opportunity for Israel that it was able to take advantage of.

And as in the good old days she knew in Africa, it is becoming an axis country, where everyone wants to be near it and wants to be helped.

In fact, we have become a regional beacon of stability and economic and technological power, for the benefit of the countries of the region.

Were we wrong?
