Schoolchildren in Olching demand 2G plus - but tests are in short supply: "The school's hands are tied"

Recently, schoolchildren were still happy that they no longer had to be tested if they were vaccinated.

With 2G plus in many areas of their leisure time, they are now again demanding tests for everyone at the Olching high school.

Olching - "The pressure has increased massively to test all students again across the board," explains Vice Headmaster Sabine Ratberger.

Schoolchildren and parents would demand what is actually required in leisure time (e.g. at cultural events).

“I understand that,” explains Sabine Ratberger.

But the school’s hands are tied.

It is clearly regulated that only tests for unvaccinated people can be ordered.

Only these have to go to the chopsticks three times a week.

It is about protecting students, not a free pass in their free time.

Gymnasium Olching: Many students have already been vaccinated against Corona

The school management therefore only orders test kits from the district office for children and adolescents who have not yet been given an injection, plus a buffer for intensive tests in the event of a possible corona infection.

This has been the case since the beginning of the school year, since then the data has been allowed to be recorded.

Most of the 950 pupils at the Olchinger Gymnasium are vaccinated.

Orders are normally placed once a month, but this time for December and January.

Since there was already a "small bottleneck" here at short notice, as Ratberger said, she was alarmed.

She explained in detail in the parents' portal why it is currently not possible to test all students across the board.

It is to be feared that the currently explicitly prescribed rapid tests can then no longer be carried out.

That probably caused a lot of excitement among some parents.

Corona tests are currently rather scarce

Ratberger emphasizes: "In individual cases we can and could make an exception." The vice-headmistress would also be ready to return to the beginnings of the pandemic when the whole class had to pull out the chopsticks.

“In terms of effort, that wouldn't be a problem.” She would prefer that to another option: “That newly vaccinated children no longer show their vaccination card just to be tested.” But the tests are currently scarce.

The answer from the district office to a daily newspaper request shows that there is apparently a need for clarification.

It is therefore up to the schools to assess the need.

Vaccinated and convalescent people would only have to be tested if there was a corona case in the class.

Voluntary tests are possible.

If urgently needed, further tests could be requested.

Whether this can now apply comprehensively to all students, however, has to be investigated with regard to the resources.
