Dutch health authorities said Friday night that 61 people who traveled from South Africa that day tested positive for COVID-19, amid concerns over the spread of the recently discovered omicron variant.

GGD Kennemerland, the municipal health service responsible for Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, added that positive test results will be examined as soon as possible to determine if they were infected with the newly discovered variant of concern, first identified in South Africa.

GGD said that a total of 600 people from two flights were tested at Schiphol.
