Sri Lanka and South Korea today announced restrictions on arrivals from several southern African countries due to concerns related to the new Omicron strain of coronavirus.
The Sri Lankan government said in a statement, according to Reuters, that travelers from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho and Eswatini will not be allowed to enter from next Monday, and those who arrived from these six countries in the past two days will have to undergo a mandatory quarantine for a period of 14 days.
In turn, South Korea also announced that it will impose restrictions on arrivals from South Africa and seven other countries due to fears of an outbreak of the new Omicron strain, starting from the 28th of this month.
And the World Health Organization classified Omicron, which was first detected in South Africa, as a worrying strain, and it is the fifth version of the Corona virus placed in this classification.
