The Weilheim town hall is currently closed due to deficiencies in the roof structure - and it will remain so for an indefinite period of time.

According to Mayor Markus Loth, it is clear that "considerable damage" must be repaired and that there is an "urgent need for action".

Weilheim

- Even since it was closed in summer, the city has repeatedly received inquiries as to whether the city hall could be booked for events - for example for Christmas parties and trade fairs.

But this is currently not possible in the building on the Ammer for security reasons, rejections have to be given.

According to Loth, it is not clear when the hall can be used again.

Certainly not at the beginning of the year, says the mayor and goes even further with his personal assessment: A reopening cannot be expected until Easter either.

The hope that the venue does not have to remain closed because the deficiencies found do not pose a risk has therefore not been fulfilled.

The hall may only be used again when the damage has been repaired and there is no longer any risk of collapse.

It is not only the timeframe for the renovation that is unclear: According to Loth, for example, it has not yet been possible to say whether the roof beams that were found to be defective should be upgraded or replaced.

Investigations revealed damage to the sides of the glue trusses.

The glue has already been examined.

The result: "To put it simply: It's bad glue," says Loth.

Fire protection also plays a role in the repairs, explains the mayor.

The fact that there is a photovoltaic system on the roof of the town hall complicates the renovation project.

The dangerous damage to the hall had been determined during preliminary investigations for the roof renovation of the building (we reported).

It could not be ruled out that the entire roof could collapse.

An interim status of the investigations into the town hall is to be presented to the building committee

According to the mayor, investigations are currently being carried out on the renovation process by an engineering office and the city's property management.

The costs for the work, which the city council still has to approve, are also determined.

An interim status of the investigations is to be presented on Tuesday, December 7th, at a meeting of the Weilheim construction committee.

The fact that the town hall cannot currently be used is neither pleasant for him as mayor nor for the event office, says Loth.

“The hall also functions as a meeting room.” During the Corona period, various political bodies came together there, including the city council, in order to comply with hygiene and distance rules.

The mayor assures him that the renovation should take place soon - "the sooner the better".

Loth points out, however, that the tendering process for the work will also take some time.
