Countries around the world announced today (Saturday) new restrictions in an attempt to prevent the spread of the new variant of the corona virus, Omicron.

The entry of tourists from countries in South Africa, where the strain was first discovered, was banned in many places, and in Switzerland Israel was also included in the list.

In Germany and the Czech Republic, the first cases of the variant were suspected.

The move comes after the World Health Organization gave the variant its official name, Omicron, and warned that preliminary findings suggest that the infectivity of the new strain is greater than that of its predecessors.

In the Netherlands, hundreds of South African passengers who landed in Amsterdam were tested for the new breed.

Authorities in the state have updated that 61 of the passengers on two flights were diagnosed with the virus, and were placed in solitary confinement at a hotel near the field for further tests, which will determine if they have been infected with Omicron.

The state is trying to stop a record jump in morbidity and will enter a partial closure tomorrow.

The first report of a case of the omicron strain to the World Health Organization was three days ago, when it was found in a patient in South Africa.

After that, the variant was also identified in Botswana, Belgium, Hong Kong and Israel.

In Germany, an official in the Hesse state said the infection had been suspected after "several omicron-typical mutations were detected in an examination of a tourist returning from South Africa."

At present, most countries are content with restrictions on tourists from South African countries.

Passengers from South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho and Asvetini will not be able to enter the UK unless they hold a British or Irish passport.

The United States has also announced that it will ban the entry of tourists from those countries, in addition to Mozambique and Malawi, starting Monday.

The struggle for the variant also reached Asia.

Japan has announced that tourists from most of South Africa will be required to stay in solitary confinement for ten days and be checked four times during them.

India has ordered stricter inspections for arrivals from South Africa, Botswana and Hong Kong.

Iran has banned entry from six countries in Africa and toughened the entry of its citizens from those countries, and in Thailand eight countries are included in the list.

In South America, Brazil has imposed restrictions on entry from six African countries.

The World Health Organization has warned that the number of infected with the new strain, first called B.1.1.529, continues to rise in large parts of South Africa.

"The variant has a large number of mutations, some of which are alarming," they said, adding that it would take at least a few weeks to understand the effect of the variant and the speed of its spread.

Professor James Naismith, a structural biologist at the University of Oxford in the UK, warned that "vaccines" would probably be less effective against the omicron.

However, he noted that "this is bad news, but it is not doomsday."
