Two people were killed in conjunction with power outages for tens of thousands of residents, as Storm Irwin swept across many regions in Britain, accompanied by strong winds of about 160 kilometers per hour.
Reuters quoted local police as saying in a statement today that the storm caused the death of two people in County Antrim in Northern Ireland and the other in Cambria, northwest England, after trees and tree branches fell on their cars.
Electricity distribution company Northern Powergrid, which supplies electricity to homes in north-east England and Yorkshire, said more than 100,000 subscribers had suffered a blackout, while ferry company P&O Ferries said it had been forced to halt shipping between Northern Ireland and Scotland.
And the British Met Office announced that winds of about 157 kilometers per hour accompanied the storm, which swept through Brisley Wood in Northumberland, northeastern Britain, and caused the closure of many roads.
And still warnings issued by the British authorities of the storm in most parts of the country.
