Get on with a normal ticket in Grünwald and float over the Isar to Pullach in seven minutes.

Two urban cable cars and three other projects could become building blocks for future public transport in the Munich district.

District

- Five projects are now to be examined further together with the municipalities, the committee for mobility and infrastructure of the district decided on Thursday.

In total, the experts from Intraplan Consult examined 23 projects for traffic effectiveness and profitability.

The cable car from the tram terminus at Derbolfinger Platz in Grünwald to the S7 S-Bahn station in Höllriegelskreuth scores best in the cost-benefit analysis and is the only connection that would probably be subsidized by the federal government.

Two gondolas - guided over two supports - could cross the Isar and overcome the difference in altitude between Grünwald and Pullach.

“This is just a pure working hypothesis,” said appraiser Bernd Kollberg, “there are also other locations for the cable car stations, but it would be the best combination of trams and S-Bahn.” The experts are reckoning with 2300 passengers per working day.

30 people could get on a gondola.

"The connection from Grünwald to the S-Bahn would be the essential function," emphasized Kollberg.

This cable car variant is less profitable

The cable car variant on 7.9 kilometers from Fürstenried West to Pasing is not quite as profitable in the cost-benefit analysis.

The journey via Neuried, Martinsried, Graefelfing with six stations takes 25 minutes.

The commercial areas are connected, and Kollberg expects 11,400 passengers here per working day.

The construction costs are around 55.9 million euros.

The extension of the U3 from Fürstenried West to Neuried is also being pursued: It is a distance of 1.4 kilometers, the travel time would take 1.55 minutes.

The construction costs would be around 178.4 million euros.

Sobering cost calculations

The district councils were not deterred by the sobering cost calculations.

They decided that two projects in the north and east should also be examined more closely.

This includes the 15.3 kilometer tram from Lohhof via Unterschleißheim and Hochbrück to Ismaning with a journey time of 31 minutes.

U2 extension does well in terms of traffic effectiveness

In the east, the U2 extension from Messestadt via Feldkirchen to Kirchheim-Heimstetten showed good traffic efficiency.

Here the district orders a new calculation: This time it will be checked whether the high number of passengers will also be reached if the U2 is extended above ground into the industrial areas of Feldkirchen and Heimstetten.

The underground variant to the S-Bahn stations in Feldkirchen and Heimstetten had proven to be very expensive at 536.9 million euros.

Maybe grants for other projects

In 23 projects, "the wheat from the chaff" was separated, summarized expert Kollberg.

Although only the cable car in the Isar Valley is currently being funded by the federal government, the funding guidelines are to be relaxed next year, and the district could then receive grants for further projects.

Member of the Landtag, Markus Büchler (Greens), appealed, "Let's look at the high benefits", it would be foolish to be put off by the costs.

The district intends to examine in depth five traffic-effective projects with the municipalities: two cable cars, two subway extensions and a tram.
