Venezuela: elected mayor of Mérida state released

Omar Fernández, the recently elected mayor of the Arzobispo Chacón municipality of the Mérida state, was released and who had been detained this Friday by Venezuelan authorities, according to the Democratic Unity Table, the party for which he appeared and won in the last regional and municipal elections last Sunday.

His release was confirmed by the Merida deputy Alexis Paparoni who, through his Twitter account, published a photograph with Chacón plus a text that said “Despite the abuse of undue detention against the elected mayor Omar Fernández de Arzobispo Chacón, we announce that he has been released without no charge, since he had no crime, simply being the representative of a fierce people ”.

Likewise, the deputy Luis Loaiza confirmed the release of Chacón through the social network Twitter with a message that described his arrest as unjustifiable.
