In celebration of the International Day of Philosophy, the Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the Revolutionary Youth Union, organized today a dialogue forum entitled The Role of Philosophy in Our Lives, on the amphitheater of the Al-Assad National Library in Damascus.
The Assistant Minister of Education, Dr. Abdel Hakim Hammad, spoke in a speech during the forum about the role of education in building the learner’s philosophy, focusing on the importance of making the school and university an environment and a place for forming a vision and philosophy for each student, indicating the role of philosophy in employing the learner’s capabilities in developing his community.
The first wave of the philosophy course in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Ahed Schelgin, in turn, spoke about the reality of philosophy in contemporary Arab culture, pointing out the importance of linking philosophical concepts to reality by strengthening the concepts of peace, love and tolerance because of their role in building the personality of the learner among the coordinator of the philosophy course in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Ahmed Ghannam that philosophy is the field that brings together all the sciences and is the basis for any person to highlight his existence.
The forum included a lecture by Dr. Imad Fawzi Al-Shuaibi and Promo on the importance and role of philosophy in life, and a short theatrical performance for the students of As-Suwayda Education entitled “Awakening the Conscience of the Body of Different Behaviors from Reality” focused on the role of morals and values in the elevation of the homeland and the citizen.
The International Day of Philosophy falls on the 19th of November of each year and was adopted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2002.
