At least 18 people were killed and others injured in a traffic accident in West Bengal, eastern India.
The Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted the Indian police as saying that a car carrying people heading towards a funeral rammed into a truck carrying rocks in the Pulbari area of the state, killing at least 18 people and injuring five others.
The police added, "Initial investigations revealed that the cause of the accident was excessive speed and thick fog in the area."
According to Indian government statistics, about 150,000 people are killed annually in traffic accidents, which reach nearly half a million in India.
