Barbara Lochbihler receives the Federal Cross of Merit

Allgäu - The former Allgäu MEP Barbara Lochbihler from Ronsberg received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in Strasbourg last week. She was also committed to human rights in the Allgäu, especially women's rights. For many years her European office in Kaufbeuren on Ludwigstrasse was the meeting point and venue for green politics.


Allgäu - The former Allgäu MEP Barbara Lochbihler from Ronsberg received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in Strasbourg last week.

She was also committed to human rights in the Allgäu, especially women's rights.

For many years her European office in Kaufbeuren on Ludwigstrasse was the meeting point and venue for green politics.

The protection and implementation of human rights are the focus of Barbara Lochbihler's almost 30-year professional life. As a MEP, as Secretary General of Amnesty International in Germany and as General Secretary of the International Women's League for Peace and Freedom in Geneva, she campaigned for the rights of women and girls, against the impunity of serious human rights violations, for the rights of migrants and refugees, and for justice advocate for victims of human rights abuses and support human rights defenders worldwide.


Barbara Lochbihler is an expert on human rights violations in the UN Committee against Enforced Disappearances.

She has been Vice President there since 2021.

She is a lecturer at the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and member of the board of the Martin Ennals Foundation.


Another special concern of Lochbihler is the living conditions of the European Sinti and Roma and the fight against the ongoing antiziganism in Germany and Europe.

The Baden-Württemberg State Association of Sinti and Roma awarded them the Culture and Honor Prize in the field of politics on September 20, 2021.
