During their annual meeting today, the members of the General Union of Craftsmen stressed the need to support craft facilities by providing loans and oil derivatives, which contributes to the rapid turnover of the production wheel and the recovery of the economy.

During the meeting, which was held in the Sahara Tourist Complex in Damascus countryside, the council discussed ways to develop the craft organization and the difficulties and obstacles facing the craftsmen, during which they reviewed what was implemented during the past year.

The members’ interventions focused on activating the role of craft associations and committees formed to distribute and secure gas and diesel to craftsmen, establish a fair income tax, deliver ration flour through cars of public companies to mills to prevent smuggling, secure yeast for bakeries at an appropriate price, facilitate procedures for granting loans to craftsmen, especially those related to securing alternative energy, and directing administrative units to the necessity of The craftsmen obtain craft certificates and secure the infrastructure to take off in the industrial and craft areas.

Minister of Industry Ziad Sabbagh explained in a statement to SANA that the meeting with representatives of craftsmen aims to find out their problems and overcome the difficulties facing the production process and work on amending the legislation regulating their work in order to serve the production process, stressing that the ministry will work on studying the prices of electricity, handicrafts and heritage, and the provision of cement and fuel with the ministries In addition to supporting craftsmen's access to loans.

Chairman of the General Union of Craftsmen, Naji Al-Hadwa, pointed out that the conference aims to crystallize and study what has been implemented during the current year and to develop a future strategy that guarantees the continuation of production by securing energy carriers and soft loans because the craft sector represents a mainstay in the national economy.

Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Moataz Kattan, confirmed that the ministry contributes to securing an incubating environment for craftsmen by creating craft zones and allocating partitions for them in the industrial cities. As soon as possible.

The meeting was attended by a member of the central leadership of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, head of the central workers' and peasants' bureaus, Muhammad Shaaban Azzouz, and the assistant minister of internal trade and consumer protection, Rifaat Suleiman.
