Gerhard Holz from the Friends of the Bavarian Language and Dialects (below) advocates Bavarian.
Manfred Rappl from Warngau (here on the right) writes his letter to the editor on the Corona discussion in Bavarian.
Our colleague, who wrote the article “On the way to dialect”, has the beautiful Italian surname Battaglia, which means battle in German.
We have borrowed tons of words from our southern neighbors since ancient times.
The Teutons at that time still lived in wooden and mud huts, while the Romans were much more advanced architecturally.
Therefore the words window, wall, cellar / cell are of Latin origin: fenestra, murus, cella.
And the Bavarians, who have always been closest to the Welschen, adopted such pretty words as Spusi (sposa, sposo = bride, groom) or Zamperl (from Italian zampe = paws).
