The European Metropolitan Region of Munich (EMM) was impressed by the concept for the possible use of innovative modes of transport in the Dachau district.
As part of the third mobility conference, it was one of four innovative and exemplary projects that received an award.
In cooperation with the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich, the district of Dachau developed a concept in 2019. The basis is a survey of over 3,400 people about the willingness of local commuters to switch. Another focus of the study was the comparison of innovative means of transport. The respondents were particularly impressed by the Bögl transport system and the cable car. Despite some loss of travel time, the willingness to switch was rated as very high. The respondents rated the route along the A8 motorway between Munich-Pasing and Augsburg / Gersthofen or a connection from Dachau via Karlsfeld to the underground network in the north of Munich (to Feldmoching or Moosach) as very attractive.At the same time - especially with the last-mentioned corridor - the specification of a route, the availability of the property and the integration into the existing local transport system remain major challenges.
"Infrastructure expansion in particular is a complex and lengthy topic," said District Administrator Stefan Löwl and added: "That is why it is important to discuss approaches together with the neighbors, all stakeholders in local transport and users, and to tackle them consistently in terms of concept and planning." The EMM mobility conference is the ongoing transformation process in the area of mobility.
