A member of Parliament in New Zealand rode her bicycle to the hospital today (Sunday) while she was in labor, and gave birth about an hour later.

Julie Ann Jenter, a member of the Green Party, did so at her previous birth, about three years ago.



"I did not plan to pedal during labor, but that's what happened in the end," 41-year-old Janter, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Party, wrote in a Facebook post after her daughter was born.

Janter, a native of the United States, is known as an avid supporter of using bicycles as a means of transportation.



She said her contractions "were not so difficult" when she and her partner decided to pedal to the hospital and she posted pictures of them from the hospital parking lot.

Politicians in New Zealand, where five million people live, have a reputation for being modest people.
